State Releases Official Test Scores For Parkland Students

Data reflected preliminary findings: Parkland students exceeded statewide percentages in reading and math, but Jaindl Elementary and Parkland High schools had fallen short in Annual Yearly Progress goals.

The state Department of Education on Thursday released the official results of the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment exams given in the 2010-2011 school year, and the data reflected preliminary information.

The results for the Parkland School District are here.

In August, Patch provided the preliminary data that showed Parkland students overall exceeded academic targets in reading and math for the 2010-2011 school year, but Jaindl Elementary and Parkland High schools fell short of meeting Annual Yearly Progress goals because of the performances of subgroups.

Officials said they will address those students' needs this school year.

However, school board members, in raising concerns about the reporting structure for No Child Left Behind, had joined districts across the country in sending resolutions to President Obama that called for reform of the federal law. Obama announced proposed changes earlier this month that would allow states to apply for waivers to the law's mandates if they take other educational steps.
