Trojans Host Stroudsburg in Playoff Game: 5 Things to Know

Stroudsburg Mountaineers will be first hurdle for Trojans to clear in state playoffs; Whitehall could be next.

The Parkland Trojans play Stroudsburg in the first round of the PIAA Quad-A playoffs at 7 p.m. Friday night at Parkland Stadium in Orefield.

Here are some things to know about the game:

  • The Stroudsburg Mountaineers have an 8-2 record, 7-1 in the Mountain Valley Conference where they finished in second place to rival East Stroudsburg South.
  • The Mountaineers are led on the field by junior running back Gerald Douglas, who finished second in the Mountain Valley Conference in carries and rushing yards and third in touchdowns with 19. He wears number 21. Find the Stroudsburg roster here.
  • Parkland and Stroudsburg faced one common opponent in 2013—the winless Northampton Konkrete Kids, who opened their season in Stroudsburg on Aug. 30 and lost 49-26. Two weeks later, the Kids came to Orefield and got thumped 48-7 in Lehigh Valley Conference play.
  • The winner of this game will face the winner of Pleasant Valley—the third place finisher in the Mountain Valley Conference—and Whitehall—the co-champion (with Parkland) of the Lehigh Valley Conference. The 9-1 Zephyrs’ only loss was to the Trojans in Orefield—a 21-12 final on Sept. 27.
  • Friday’s matchups in Orefield and Whitehall could become more common in the next few years as the Mountain Valley and Lehigh Valley conferences merge next season.

If you can’t get to the game, it will be televised live on Service Electric and RCN’s cable channels.
