Photos: Justin Sheftel Memorial Softball Tournament

The eight annual Justin Sheftel Memorial Softball Tournament was held June 16 at the Parkland High School Athletic Complex in South Whitehall.

Patch thanks Barb Deane for photos of the 2012 Justin Sheftel Memorial Softball Tournament.

The tournament, held June 16 at the Athletic Complex in South Whitehall, honors the memory of 2005 Parkland graduate Justin Sheftel, who was killed by a drunken driver in Ocean City, Md., shortly after his graduation. The money raised goes to scholarships and community contributions in Sheftel's name.

The tournament started with four teams its first year, but grew to 22 teams this year, including four men’s divisions and two women’s divisions.

In 2012, the website says, $7,500 scholarships were to again go to two graduating seniors. Also, $2,500 was to be awarded to Lehigh Valley Miracle League, $5,000 to the Jewish Community Center for a new baseball program, and $2,500 each to two charities chosen by two teams participating in the tournament.
