Parkland Homecoming, Woodlawn Fire Company Open House This Week

Here's a look at the week ahead in and around South Whitehall Township.

• The South Whitehall Township Public Works Department begins leaf collection Monday.

• The Woodlawn Fire Company will host an open house with special displays and refreshments from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the fire house, 1651 Whitehall Ave.

• Parkland School District is closed Monday for students. 

• The Parkland School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the administration building, 1210 Springhouse Road.

• Parkland Homecoming Week.  Parkland High School's Homecoming football game begins at 7 p.m. Friday at Orefield Middle School. The Trojans will face Bethlehem Catholic in a Lehigh Valley Conference game. The parade of floats will take place at halftime. Floats will be built Friday at the bus garage behind the football stadium. This year's theme is, "The Show Must Go On,” in support of maintaining education for the performing arts in public schools. • Parkland High School's annual Garter Bowl powder puff football game begins at 7 p.m. at Orefield Middle School. Parkland High School girls will compete in flag football games.

• The Parkland Community Library has paired with Five Guys Burgers, 4025 Tilghman St., Allentown, and 914 Airport Road, Hanover Township, for a fundraiser from Thursday through Saturday. Present a library flyer before purchasing your meal and 15 percent of your purchase will be donated to the library. Call 610-395-4881 for more information about how to pick up your flyer.

• Book Quest at Parkland Community Library. The library's book group for adults meets from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday to discuss "Brick Lane" by Monica Ali. New members are always welcome.

• Wellementary program, 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Orefield Middle School cafeteria. For more information, click here.

• Community Advisory Council meets 7 p.m. Thursday at the administration building board room, 1210 Springhouse Road. The community is invited to learn about clubs and activities that are offered at the middle and high school level.
