Nor'easter Could Disrupt Thanksgiving Plans: Your Week

Also, parent-teacher conferences and shortened school days, Zoning Hearing Board meets Monday night.

As we enter Thanksgiving week, the threatening weather forecast is going to be foremost on everyone’s minds—whether you are looking to travel, expecting traveling company or just looking to do some last minute shopping for the Turkey Day feast.

The National Weather Service and other forecasters haven’t finalized the outlook, but they are gaining confidence that we will start to feel the effects of a Nor’easter by mid-day Tuesday that could bring us several inches of rain with a mix of some snow and freezing rain into Wednesday.

Here’s what else is going on in and near South Whitehall this week:

  • The Parkland School District will be hosting daytime parent-teacher conferences during this shortened school week, which will also mean some shortened school days:
        • The elementary schools will have conferences Monday. Elementary schools will be dismissing pupils at 1:45 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
        • Orefield and Springhouse middle schools will host parent-teacher conferences Tuesday and Wednesday. Student dismissal both days is at 1 p.m.
        • Parkland High School will host parent-teacher conferences Wednesday. Student dismissal is at 1 p.m.
        • Schools will be closed from Thursday through next Monday for the Thanksgiving holiday.
        • Pre-fabricated buildings will be the word of the evening as the South Whitehall Township Zoning Hearing Board meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday. The Parkland School District will be seeking permission to install temporary classrooms and construction trailers at Kratzer Elementary School to allow the school to continue operating through a $9 million renovation project scheduled to get under way in March and continue through August 2015. Big Boy Hydraulics will be seeking permission to sell pre-fabricated storage buildings from their business on Route 309. The project involving the King George Inn is also back on the agenda, but it will likely be continued once again.
        • Township office buildings will be closed Thursday and Friday for the holiday.
