This Week in South Whitehall: Ballroom Dancing, Movie Night and School Open Houses

Fall weather has settled in, high school sports are in full swing and festival time is around the corner.

Here's what you need to know this week in and around South Whitehall:

  • Beginning Ballroom Dance classes will begin Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Covered Bridge Park recreation building (Wehr Dam Hall). Cost is $60 per couple for eight classes, held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Class registration closes Wednesday. Registration form is here.
  • The Parkland School District is closed Friday in observance of Yom Kippur.
  • Parkland High School will host its Open House at 7 p.m. Thursday. 
  • Parkway Manor and Cetronia elementary schools in the Parkland School District will host their Open Houses at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
  • Orefield Middle School will host its Open House at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
  • Youth Night is on tap at 7 p.m. Friday when Parkland High School hosts Northampton in a Lehigh Valley Conference football game.
  • The Parkland Community Library, at 4422 Walbert Ave., South Whitehall will hold Night at the Movies on at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Each month, the library screens an often award-winning film. Under the licensing agreement, the library is not permitted to list titles but you can call the library at 610-398-1361 for more information.
  • The second annual Angel 34 Foundation/Valley Preferred Wheels for Hope will take place Saturday at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center at 1151 Mosser Road in Breinigsville. Click here for more information and how to register. The Budweiser Clydesdales of Super Bowl commercial fame will appear from noon to 3 p.m.
  • Lottery players take note! Monday's draw for the Pennsylvania Match 6 Lotto jackpot is worth more than $5 million. It's the third largest jackpot in the history of the game.
  • The Parkland Community Library will hold a Thursday seminar on raising fiscally responsible kids, hosted by Marie Maritch of Magellan Financial. Call 610-398-1361 to RSVP.
