In addition to its fire-fighting responsibilities, the volunteer group also handles all rescue operations in the township. It built its first fire house in 1928, but as operations grew and fire services progressed, it built a new and bigger facility in 1975 to house its growing number of equipment; the building was expanded in 2001.  

Just as the township has grown in houses and population, so has the company's responsibilities. In the 1960s, the company averaged 60 calls a year; now the company responds to 360 to 400 calls annually.

In addition to fire-fighting, Greenawalds Fire Co. also hosts community events, including an Easter egg hunt, Halloween parade and Santa run. 

Cedar Creek Parkway East -- Haines Mill

At the western edge of Cedar Creek Parkway East, Haines Mill offers visitors a glimpse into the past. The originalMore mill was built around 1760 but had to be rebuilt in 1909 after a fire left then-owner Jacob Haines with nothing but the outside walls. Haines sold it in 1952 and operations ended four years later.

In 1972, Lehigh County Commissioners bought the mill to preserve it as a working grist mill museum. Now administered by the Lehigh County Historical Society, the museum allows visitors to see water-powered rolling equipment in action, just as in the days when the mill was a successful business. The beautifully landscaped park itself stretches 37.5 acres; it is a peaceful escape, offering benches and picnic tables and a place for visitors to walk or fish.
