Commercial real estate specialist involved in sale of former Burger King property in South Whitehall says there's "good chance" new owner would eventually build hotel.
The Burger King property at Cedar Crest and Hamilton boulevards in South Whitehall has been sold to a new entity called "Hotel Hamilton LLC," according to the commercial real estate firm involved in the sale. Bill Plasha, who chairs the commercial group of Prudential Patt White Real Estate, said Tuesday the new owner will "land bank" the property for now, but there's a "good chance" it will eventually build a hotel at the site. "I would think so," given the name of the new entity, said Plasha. "It would only stand to reason." Plasha did not disclose the principals in Hotel Hamilton but said those involved own hotels in the Lehigh Valley and New Jersey. He did not disclose the sale price but said it was close to the $1,899,000 asking price…

Burger King franchise owner Bob Van Duzer said Tuesday he is not sure whether he will reopen the fast-food restaurant at 3105 Hamilton Blvd. in South Whitehall. Van Duzer did not specify why he closed the restaurant on Nov. 19. He said, however, that he is in discussions with the corporate Burger King on a "series of things" and that sales were down. The "Thanks PPL" message on an outdoor sign is a genuine thank-you to PPL for their restoration efforts after the October snowstorm, he said. Van Duzer said he had operated the Burger King at that location for 33 years. Burger King Corp., which is headquartered in Florida, said in an email last week that the franchise operating company closed without its consent and that it had requested the …

Zoning for 4542 Lime Kiln Road will be neighborhood commercial, instead of residential.
South Whitehall commissioners passed an ordinance on Wednesday night that rezones a property at 4542 Lime Kiln Road to neighborhood commercial, from residential. The property borders the Burger King lot at Lime Kiln Road and Route 309. John Barto of JDL Enterprises, which owns both properties, had petitioned the township for the zoning change. Barto said his daughters had lived in the home at 4542 Lime Kiln Road, but now it is vacant. He said he probably will use the structure as an office. Barto said he has been limited in what he can do with the property because of a septic bed there, its only one acre in size, and any land sale would be tied into the Burger King property. Board President Brad Osborne and fellow commissioners Howard …
