Devon Circle Playground Takes Shape

After lobbying by neighbors, South Whitehall officials get moving on a new playground for the Devon Circle area of Springhill Estates.

Patch stopped by the Devon Circle area of Springhill Estates last week to check the progress on the new playground. Rubberized flooring is in place, as well as playground equipment that includes a sliding board. The area is still roped off as South Whitehall finishes the project. Devon Circle neighbors had lobbied South Whitehall commissioners for the playground, given that developers had set aside open space money when the area was first developed. Officials have said that neighbors initially did not want a playgound, but current neighbors had circulated a petition in favor of one. The commissioners had budgeted $44,000 for improvements to the Devon Circle playground in this year's budget, but before the work proceeded, they had been …

Work Begins on Devon Circle Playground

Residents had petitioned the township for the park, which will include a playground.

Patch stopped by the Devon Circle area of Springhill Estates on Friday to check on the progress of the new playground. The township has begun to dig out the area in preparation of the playground equipment being installed. Residents had pushed for the playground for about a year, making pleas at commissioners' budget and regular meetings.

75,000 dollars to serve 26 residents seems a bit excessive considering the same residents rejected the park 20 years ago, also Springhouse Middle School is right down the block with facilities Would love Patch to do a follow up of drive bys to see the park next year NOT being used   more ›

Township Moves Ahead with Devon Circle Playground

Devon Circle residents asked for an update on the plan at last week's commissioners' meeting.

South Whitehall commissioners are moving ahead with plans to build a playground in the Devon Circle area of Springhill estates. Residents have been pushing for the playground for about a year, making pleas at commissioners' budget and regular meetings. They were back to address the commissioners again last week. Devon Circle resident Michelle Maurer wanted an update on the proposal, and noted that she was disheartened to hear that Rothrock Motors, which plans to build a collision repair shop, was asking for a reduction in the recreation fee imposed on his plan. She noted that the fee would help cover the cost of the playground in her neighborhood. Maurer had support from several commissioners, including Dale Daubert and Thomas Johns, who …

Parks & Rec Board Approves Playground for Devon Circle

The new play lot is expected to be in place next year.

Youngsters from the Devon Circle area of Springhouse Estates will have a new playground to enjoy next year, thanks to the initiative of neighbors and South Whitehall's Parks and Recreation Board. The board, at its meeting Monday night, gave approval to a plan that would provide playground structure for ages 2-12, benches, signage and rules, additional buffer plantings along Route 22 and a doggie waste disposal station.  The plan will now go to the township commissioners for review and approval. About 20 residents attended the meeting, most to show support for the play lot. Barry Yeakel, whose property on Devon Drive would abut the site on the west, was among those in support of the playground. He said he wished it had been built when his …

Parks & Rec Board To Consider Playground For Devon Circle

Residents of Devon Circle area of Springhouse Estates will ask the South Whitehall Township Parks and Recreation Board tonight for a neighborhood play area.

Residents of the Devon Circle area of Springhouse Estates are expected to ask South Whitehall's Parks and Recreation Board tonight to consider putting up playground equipment in their neighborhood. The board meets at 7 tonight in the township building at 4400 Walbert Ave., South Whitehall. Michele Maurer of 1358 Devon Circle approached the board earlier this year with a request for a play lot in the western portion of the open space that borders on Route 22.  She indicated that many of the children in the area play in the street, and she feared for their safety. The board asked Maurer to poll the neighborhood to see if other residents agreed with her suggestion. Since then, Maurer and 26 other residents of the development signed a petition…
