Three times a summer, Jennie McAfee knows she will have to sedate her dog, her windows will shake, her dishes will rattle and parking will be impossible in her neighborhood, but she and her family will get to see a spectacular nighttime show when nearby Dorney Park shoots its fireworks display. But when the South Whitehall resident read on Dorney Park's website that it planned to have nightly fireworks for eight weeks beginning June 28, she was stunned. "I'm thinking, wait a minute, every single night? I read it again and again. I finally called the township and asked, 'Is this for real?,'" McAfee said. This weekend's hours are as follows: Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. 2. Lehigh Valley residents get a discount on admission this weekend. According to Dorney Park's Facebook page, park patrons from Lehigh and Northampton counties, as well as Berks, Monroe and Carbon counties, can present their ID at the ticket booth this weekend (May 3-5) to buy up to four tickets at $25 per ticket. (Regular admission is $39.99 online to $49.99 at the gate, per ticket but there are junior/senior admissions and starlight tickets). As a season pass holder we go as soon as they open, head to the water park and stay for a few hours and then go home and have lunch at home. It works out well for us because we only live 15, or so mins, away. I can't take the crowds !!! Going after 5 is good too especially during the week. I too would never go there except for the kids.   more ›

Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom is opening a full-service Chickie's & Pete's Sports Bar in the center of the amusement park, park officials announced Wednesday. Dorney Park opens for the season on May 3. Chickie's & Pete's is part of a popular sports bar chain that began in Philadelphia in 1977. The Dorney Park staff has joined the ranks of Harlem Shake-ers. Dorney's YouTube video , posted Feb. 15, shows the full-time staff doing their version of the Harlem Shake dance craze on the Steel Force roller coaster, complete with a priest performing an exorcism, a dancing banana and cop. It's already garnered nearly 10,000 views. What began as a simple video of a few guys in costume dancing to a techno beat has quickly turned into one the Internet's latest viral memes. Lehigh Valley Health Network will administer free seasonal flu vaccinations for adults and children six months and older during two drive-through community sessions this weekend: Once again this year LVHN is partnering with area food banks and shelters including the Allentown Area Ecumenical Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank, Allentown Rescue Mission and the AIDS Activities Office food pantry to accept donations of non-perishable food items that have not expired during each of the drive-thru sessions.
