At the second annual State of the School address on Jan. 15, Head of School and Principal Yossi Kastan announced that the Jewish Day School of the Lehigh Valley has been named to the distinction of Blue Ribbon Beacon School. The Jewish Day School of the Lehigh Valley -- founded in 1954 and now entering its sixth decade of serving the Lehigh Valley -- is a community school for primary kindergarten through 8th grade that is dedicated to a holistic approach to education. Principal notes concerns over cars that speed on stretch of Pennsylvania Street near school.
Citing safety concerns, Jewish Day School Principal Yossi Kastan told South Whitehall commissioners Wednesday night that the school wants to have a flashing speed limit sign installed at the school on Pennsylvania Street. Kastan asked for the commissioners' guidance in how to proceed to get the necessary clearances from the township and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for the sign. "As a school, safety comes first," said Kastan, noting concerns over cars that speed on that stretch of roadway, particularly when students and their parents are arriving or departing school grounds.
