Citizens Group Will Appeal a North Whitehall Sewage Plant Vote

The Voice of Jordan, a group of community activists, will appeal a township decision that could lead to a new sewage treatment plant.

A group of citizens who oppose the location of a proposed sewage treatment plant in North Whitehall Township will go to court to appeal a waiver that township supervisors granted to Lehigh County Authority Tuesday night. The conditional-use waiver was the first hurdle the LCA had to clear before its proposed treatment plant, capable of handling 200,000 gallons day, can be built. Attorney John Roberts, who represents the citizens group - The Voice of the Jordan- said Thursday that his clients will definitely appeal the decision in Lehigh County Court of Common Pleas. “Legally the LCA can go ahead with a land development plan while we are appealing but they risk losing money if the court of common pleas reverses it,” said Roberts. Resident Raises Concerns about Proposed Sewage Treatment Plant

North Whitehall Township supervisors heard more testimony Monday night on how well the Lehigh County Authority would manage a new sewage treatment plant -- and if it's needed.

Questions of whether North Whitehall Township really needs a new sewage treatment plant, and how well the Lehigh County Authority would manage a 200,000-gallon-per-day plant, came into play Monday as the township supervisors continued to hear testimony on the proposed project. The LCA is seeking approval for a conditional-use variance to construct the plant on Jordan Road near the KidsPeace campus. If granted, the enlarged capacity plant would replace the current 62,000-gallon-per-day plant now serving KidsPeace. In addition to serving KidsPeace, the new plant would handle treatment for a proposed Walmart, Lehigh Carbon Community College, Schnecksville Fire Company and residential connections from future customers as township development …

Water Line Work on Haines Mill Road

Lehigh County Authority is doing utility work on Haines Mill Road through June 5.

  Lehigh County Authority is doing water line work on Haines Mill Road in South Whitehall through Tuesday, June 5, according to PennDOT. The utility work is being done from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. between the Hamilton Boulevard Bypass and Broadway. There are daytime lane restrictions, with flagging. Rain will cause delays.
