Woman's Death Ruled Homicide 30 Years After She Was Shot

Linda J. Knauss, 65, of Orefield, died from complications caused by a gunshot wound during a robbery in Harrisburg 30 years ago, according to the Lehigh County Coroner's office.

An Orefield woman's death last week was ruled a homicide from complications from a gunshot wound she suffered 30 years ago during an attempted robbery, according to the Lehigh County Coroner's office. The coroner's office launched an investigation into death of Linda J. Knauss, 65, 5268 Baldwin Lane, who died Feb. 18 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, after it got a cremation request from the funeral home. "Based on the cause of death listed, our office opened an investigation as the cause of death appeared to be trauma related," according to a news release issued Wednesday by the coroner's office. $10M Cetronia Ambulance Center Construction to Begin

Governor Tom Corbett joined local and regional officials to break ground on the new Cetronia Ambulance Corps Joint Operations Facility

Governor Tom Corbett helped break ground Thursday for a new Cetronia Joint Operations Facility near the Lehigh County Sports Fields in South Whitehall. The 68,000-square-foot facility -- formally known as the Cetronia Ambulance and Lehigh County Joint Operations and Medico-Legal Forensics Center -- will house the Cetronia Ambulance’s fleet, a regional education center, and the coroner's office. The communications center, at Broadway and Parkway roads, will bear the name of John E. Walson, the former head of Service Electric whose family donated $275,000 towards the project.  Corbett said advocating for strong public services is an integral part of government. Forensics Center Groundbreaking Thursday

Gov. Tom Corbett will help break ground on a unique new building for Cetronia Ambulance and the Lehigh County Coroner's office in South Whitehall.

Gov. Tom Corbett and Pennsylvania EMS Director Joseph Schmider will join in a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for a new Joint Operations and Medico-Legal Forensics Center in South Whitehall. The unique building, which will rise on open land at Broadway and Parkway roads, will house Cetronia Ambulance’s fleet of ambulances and other units, a regional educational center, and offices for the Lehigh County coroner and staff. The facility also will be capable of expanding Cetronia’s command center to assist in regional emergency operations. Years in the planning, the project is a joint venture between Lehigh County and the ambulance corps. Woman, 88, Dies from Fall at Upper Macungie Home

An 88-year-old woman died Monday as a result of injuries from a fall in Upper Macungie

The Lehigh County Coroner says Marguerite Cratty, 88, of 90 North Broadway, North Versailles, Pa., died Monday at 434 Arrowhead Lane in Upper Macungie Township. She died from injuries sustained in a fall that occured Nov. 24, 2012 at the Upper Macungie residence. Her death has been ruled an accident. Falls are the leading cause of death from injuries for the elderly, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Falls can cause broken bones and even brain trauma. Woman's Burned Body ID'd

Identity of woman whose burning body was found in Salisbury Township was confirmed today through DNA testing, Lehigh County Coroner says.

The identity of a woman whose body was found burning last month in Salisbury Township was confirmed today through DNA testing, according to Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim. She is Jennifer Velez-Negron, 26, of Reading, Grim said. Investigators received clues after they released a detailed description of the body a day after it was found burning on Dec. 27 in a wooded residential area behind the Unami Fish and Game Association, 75 Chestnut Hill Road. Velez-Negron, who died from suffocation and thermal injuries, was burned beyond recognition but some distinguishing characteristics were discovered during the autopsy. Woman's Burned Body To Be ID'd By DNA

Identity is still unknown of a woman burned alive Dec. 27 on Chestnut Hill Road in Salisbury Township.

The identity of Jane Doe, the woman found suffocated and burned to death Dec. 27 on a wooded residential road in Salisbury Township, could soon be confirmed, according to Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim. Grim said his office is waiting to get DNA results, which could be later this week or next. The coroner's office released the following description of the woman: She may have been wearing: Police continue to request any information from the public that might help them in the investigation, "no matter how insignificant it might seem," they said. Coroner Seeking Kin of Allentown Man, 52

The Lehigh County coroner is trying to find the next of kin of an Allentown man who died Saturday

Anyone with information about the relatives of Raymond Rudd, Sr. -- a 52-year-old Allentown man who died Saturday -- is asked to contact the Lehigh County coroner's office at 610-782-3426. Rudd died at Sacred Heart Hospital. He lived at 122 N. 11th Street in Allentown. An autopsy was performed Monday but cause of death is pending results of toxicology tests, according to the coroner's office.

5-Year-Old Boy's Death Under Investigation

Police are investigating the "suspicious' death of a 5-year-old Allentown boy who died Friday

Police are investigating the death of an Allentown child found unresponsive in his home Thursday night. Cashmiere Hill, 5, of 107 N. 12th St., was not breathing so his mother called 911 about 9 p.m. Thursday. He was pronounced dead at 2:31 a.m. Friday at Lehigh Valley Hospital. An autopsy was performed Friday morning but the Lehigh County coroner's office issued a statement saying the boy's cause and manner of death are pending further investigation. The death is being termed "suspicious." The coroner's office and Allentown police are investigating, with assistance from the Lehigh County district attorney.

Buckeye Road Crash Victim Died of Blunt Force Injuries, Autopsy Finds

James F. Heller of Macungie was killed by injuries sustained in a crash with a tanker truck by Tank Farm Road in Upper Milford, according to the autopsy.

The Macungie man whose car collided with a tank truck on Buckeye Road in Upper Milford Sunday night died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to an autopsy performed by the Lehigh County coroner's office. The coroner's office ruled the death of James F. Heller, 61, of 101 S. Main St., an accident.  Heller was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier west on Buckeye Road and a tractor trailer driven by Matthew Phillip Wise, 26, of Fort Bragg, N.C., was attempting to turn east on Buckeye Road from Tank Farm Road, state police at Fogelsville said. The car reportedly hit the tractor trailer.  The tank truck began leaking diesel fuel that resulted in the closing of Buckeye Road while the state Department of Environmental Protection and a Hazardous …

Boy Hit by Car and Killed While Trick or Treating is Identified

Jordan Steinmetz, 14, was struck on Schantz Road in Upper Macungie Friday night and killed. Berks-Lehigh Regional Police are investigating.

  A 14-year-old boy who had been apparently trick-or-treating was hit and killed by a vehicle Friday evening on Schantz Road in Upper Macungie. Jordan Steinmetz, of Lisa Court, Upper Macungie, was pronounced dead at 11:45 p.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, according to the Lehigh County Coroner's Office.  Berks-Lehigh Regional Police said the boy was in costume, walking west on Schantz Road with another boy, when he was struck by a SUV also travelling west on Schantz Road, according to a preliminary investigation. The accident happened at 8:20 p.m. in the area of Balsam Street and Cottonwood Road. The coroner's office said the accident happened in front of 6429 Schantz Road.
