Parkland Shuts Out Pleasant Valley to Win District Title

Parkland defeats Pleasant Valley 37-0 Friday night at a home game in Orefield, capturing the District 11 Class AAAA title.

Parkland Trojans defeated Pleasant Valley 37-0 Friday night, capturing the District 11 Class AAAA title.  It's the team's third district title since 2002. From the beginning Friday, it was all Parkland, as Pleasant Valley found …

Rich Trotta: Parkland's Mascot Is Fearless Trojan

An injury kept Rich Trotta from playing football this fall for Parkland High School, but it hasn't kept him out of the action.

A year ago, Rich Trotta enjoyed the camaraderie associated with being part of the Parkland High School Trojan football team. He had played the sport for 11 years, as a wide receiver and linebacker for the North Whitehall Athletic Association, then with the Parkland School District’s middle and high schools.  Then, the unthinkable happened. He sustained a neck injury that sidelined him, taking him out of commission for wrestling last winter and football this season. The injury may have been enough to end the career of other young athletes, but not Trotta's. He kept his ties with the football team by stepping into the role of the fearless Trojan mascot this fall.     “Lots of people asked me to do it,” said Trotta, a senior. “I got the job …
