Wheels, Phone, iPads Stolen, Police Say

Five iPads were among items reported stolen last week in South Whitehall, police said.

The following information was provided by the South Whitehall Police Department. Theft—Five iPads reported missing May 8 from Eastern Pennsylvania Endoscopy, 1501 N. Cedar Crest Crest Blvd., police said. Retail theft—Cathina Spear, 28, of Allentown, arrested and charged May 7 with taking more than $400 in merchandise from Target, according to police. Theft from vehicle—Wheels removed May 3 from vehicle parked in 4600 block of Crackersport Road, police said. Theft—Phone reported missing May 6 from residence in the 1100 block of Bulldog Drive, police said. Now Hiring: $53,000 South Whitehall Police Officer

Applications for the new South Whitehall police officer position are due Friday.

The South Whitehall Township Police Department will hire a new patrol officer this year, according to Chief Thomas Toth. The deadline to submit an application is Friday. The department, which currently has 37 members, added four new patrol officers last May to replace four who retired. Starting salary for a new officer at the time was $53,026. The new patrol officer would be an addition to the force, which would allow a current member of the force to become a school resource officer in the Parkland middle schools, Toth said. The school resource officer's salary would be paid by the school district and the township, he said. Computer Stolen from PaintSome Pottery, Police Say

South Whitehall Police say a computer and other items valued at $1,730 were stolen from PaintSome Pottery in Tilghman Square.

South Whitehall Police are investigating the theft of a computer and other items  from PaintSome Pottery in Tilghman Square shopping center. The theft was reported April 19, police said. A computer and other items valued about $1,730 were stolen, police said. PaintSome Pottery is a pottery studio where customers can handpaint unfinished pieces of pottery. The studio glazes and fires the piece, which customers pick up a week later.

Two men are charged in connection with a theft at Walmart in Lower Macungie that ended in a police chase for a fake carjacking, state police at Fogelsville say.

Two Allentown men are in custody following a police chase that began Friday in Lower Macungie after one man stole baby formula from the Walmart in the township then lied that his vehicle had been carjacked, state police at Fogelsville said. The chase ended in Allentown, with police taking the second man who fled in the vehicle into custody at Seventh and Union streets, police said. Hector Vincente Rosa, 42, and Stephen "NMN" Rodriguez, 34, face charges that include retail theft and fleeing and eluding, police said.  According to police, both men arrived at the Walmart at 5:45 p.m. Friday in the same vehicle, based on the store's video surveillance. Get Rid of Outdated Drugs Saturday at South Whitehall PD

Local police will collect outdated and unwanted medications as part of National Take Back Day on Saturday.

The sixth National Take Back Day drug collection will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 17 locations across Lehigh County including: Allentown locations are: You can dispose of capsules, pills, including pet medications, and liquids. Syringes or Sharps will not be accepted. Residents who dispose of medications will remain anonymous, as has been the case in the last five collections, and no questions will be asked. The amount of unwanted and expired drugs collected during the past Take Back Day events has been staggering.  During the last five collection events in 2010, 2011 and 2012, a total of 3,269 pounds of drugs were collected in Lehigh County alone. Bogus Bills Used at Local Businesses, Police Say

South Whitehall Police say someone used counterfeit $20 and $50 bills at Pott's and G & K Pharmacy.

South Whitehall Police are investigating the use of counterfeit money used at two area businesses. A bogus $20 bill was used Tuesday at Potts' Hot Dogs, 3512 Hamilton Blvd., and a counterfeit $50 bill was used Saturday at G&K Pharmacy, 4680 Broadway, police said.

Stolen Lexus Items Sold on Ebay, Police Say

Gold chains and cash were also reported stolen in South Whitehall Township, police said.

South Whitehall Police are investigating the theft of items reported Wednesday at Lexus of Lehigh Valley that were sold on eBay. Police did not disclose what items were sold or their value. Other thefts reported in the township: Theft—Gold chains were reported stolen Wednesday from a residence in the 1100 block of Lowell Street, police said. Theft—Wallet and an undisclosed amount of cash were reported stolen April 11 and April 12 from Parkland High School, police said. Theft from vehicle—$36 was reported stolen April 10 from a vehicle in the 1400 block of Whitehall Avenue, police said.

Small Brush, Mulch Fires Reported, Police Say

A small brush fire broke out in the Lehigh Valley Education Credit Union parking lot, South Whitehall Police said.

South Whitehall police and fire units were called out to extinguish a small brush fire that broke out Sunday in the Lehigh Valley Education Credit Union parking lot, police said. A mulch fire was extinguished outside a home April 1 in the 900 block of Dylan Drive, police said.
