Univest Breaks Ground for $2M Building at Tilghman Square

Univest Corporation will start construction on a two-story, 10,000-square-foot office building with access on Cetronia Road in South Whitehall.

On a picture-perfect day, Univest Corporation officials along with South Whitehall and Lehigh County officials broke ground Tuesday afternoon for a new two-story office building at Tilghman Square Shopping Center. The company plans to relocate 31 employees currently working out of offices in Allentown and Fogelsville into the 10,000-square-foot building, eventually expanding to 50 employees. The Univest location will serve individuals, businesses and nonprofit organizations with corporate banking, wealth management, equipment financing, mortgage banking, insurance, retirement plans and municipal pension services. Larken Associates, the developer and landlord, expects to complete the building in December.

The ceremonial groundbreaking for a new Univest Corp. office at Tilghman Square shopping center will be held Tuesday. The proposed two-story, 10,000-square-foot building on Cetronia Road will initially house 31 employees and offer services in corporate banking, mortgage banking, insurance, wealth management and equipment financing. The building will not be a retail bank, officials have said. Bagel Du Jour Bistro Opens at Tilghman Square

Bagel du Jour Bistro, which opened this month at Tilghman Square in South Whitehall, serves fresh, healthful salads, soups and sandwiches.

Looking for an authentic French croissant in the Lehigh Valley? How about a New York bagel? And a healthy lunch? Look no further than Bagel du Jour Bistro, which opened earlier this month at 4620 Broadway in the Tilghman Square shopping center in South Whitehall. The bistro bakes its croissants using ingredients from the premier croissant maker in Canada, Bridor, said owner Bass Sylla, who knows his way around French pastries and breads. But Sylla also knows bistro food. Sylla, who was born in Senegal and grew up in the south of France, managed Au Bon Pain cafes in New York and Philadelphia for 25 years prior to launching Bagel du Jour Bistro, which opened April 13. Lena's Cafe Closes

Le Bagel Du Jour Bistro will open in the former Lena's Cafe in Tilghman Square.

Lena's Cafe in Tilghman Square Shopping Center is closed, according to a sign in the window. Le Bagel Du Jour Bistro plans to open at the cafe located at 4620 Broadway, which is undergoing a renovation. A sign in the window thanked Lena's Cafe's customers for their support. The cafe opened in September but closed about six months later. Bread Box Bakery and Cafe had been at the site for more than a year before it closed last August.

South Whitehall Planners to Discuss New Drive-Thru, Bank at Tilghman Square

South Whitehall planners will discuss new development plans at Tilghman Square Shopping Center as well as a subdivision of property owned by Jordan Evangelical Church.

  The South Whitehall Planning Commission will meet at 7:30 tonight to discuss two new buildings in the Tilghman Square Shopping Center and a subdivision of property owned by Jordan Evangelical Church. The agenda says planners will first consider a preliminary/final plan review that would allow a 3,986-square-foot, one-story retail building, a 10,145-square-foot, two-story commercial building, and eight additional parking spaces on a 34-acre parcel at the southeast corner, or the Cetronia Road entrance, of the Tilghman Square Shopping Center. Signs indicate a sandwich shop will open where the restaurant Relish once was and a spa is coming to the spot next to YoFresh Yogurt Cafe.

  The Tilghman Square Shopping Center off Tilghman Street is getting closer to being completely leased. Signs for The Old School Sandwich Shop are posted in the windows of the former Relish Restaurant, and Massage Envy Spa, located next to YoFresh Yogurt Cafe, will open soon. Relish closed earlier this year. Lena's Cafe recently opened in the shopping center.

QueenBee Boutique at Tilghman Square Creates Buzz

New high-end women's fashion shop in the Tilghman Square shopping center in South Whitehall promises international flair.

A posh new store, promising some of Europe’s finest fashions, purses and jewelry, pays homage to three generations of women who love to dress well. Owners Wendy Aach and her husband Mohamed Badre said they opened their first clothing store in South Whitehall’s Tilghman Square shopping center to bring “the best of Paris, Milan, Murano and Florence” to the Lehigh Valley.  “We travel a lot and noticed it takes a long time until fashions make their way here,” said Aach, of Schnecksville. The couple named the store the QueenBee Boutique after Aach’s mother, Jackie Mory, who Aach said “is the queen bee” of the family.
