New Recycling Rules for Electronics Effective Today

Residents of South Whitehall can no longer put computers, laptops, tablets, monitors and televisions curbside for trash removal.

  A new state law preventing Pennsylvanians from throwing out computers and similar electronics with the rest of their household trash goes into effect today, Jan. 24. The mandatory rules cover computers, laptops, tablets, monitors and televisions. Manufacturers are required to set up methods to recycle the material at no cost to consumers and more information about where to recycle electronics can be found here. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection also has a toll-free hotline at 1-800-346-4242 for questions about electronic recycling requirements.
