Year in Review in South Whitehall

People flocked to South Whitehall stories in 2011 that ranged from tragic (the burned body of a Brooklyn man found in the township) to wacky (zombies invade Dorney Park.) Below are some of the stories of events -- large and small -- that attracted lots of attention here. 

1. The smoldering body of Joshua James Rubin, a Brooklyn, N.Y. cafe owner, was Nov. 1 and identified earlier this month. 

2. In August, Dorney Park held its first , attracting more than 1,000 participants and setting a Guinness World Record. 

3. Facing $6.4 million in budget cuts, Parkland administrators recommended in April , many through attrition. 

4. A Whitehall man was killed in an in South Whitehall in July, shutting a section of the highway down for two hours. A South Whitehall woman  in May when her SUV hit the median barrier on Route 22 in the township.

5. The Burger King on Hamilton Boulevard in South Whitehall abruptly, South Whitehall Patch reported Dec. 2.  

6. The opened in Tilghman Square offering mouth-watering treats, Patch reported in June.  

7. In September, Dorney Park announced plans to create a exhibit with some dinosaur replicas 35-40 feet high.  

8. In October, a at the former Charlie Brown's restaurant in South Whitehall and a township firefighter received a minor injury in fighting it. 

9.   in Tilghman Square expanded its tanning facility and added a "skin rejuvenation" service called Red Light therapy, Patch reported in November. 

10. In April, a 29-year-old when three men broke into his home on South Drive.
