Jewish Federation Elects Officers

Wendy Born of South Whitehall was re-elected president.

Wendy Born of South Whitehall was elected to a third term as president of the Jewish Federation of the Lehigh Valley at its annual June meeting.

“The Jewish people in Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton are passionate and always willing to help those in need,” said Born, in a prepared statement. “I am honored to be asked to continue in this role and am excited about what we can accomplish by working together.”

Born has been a dedicated volunteer at the federation for decades. She has co-chaired the Women’s Division Campaign and the Annual Campaign for Jewish Needs. Also, she previously served as president of the Jewish Community Center of Allentown.

Elected to distinguished, honorary officer status were Ross Born and Stanley Wax. 

Ross Born, co-chief executive officer of Just Born Inc., was elected honorary president. He is only the third person to take this position in the federation’s 63-year history, following Bernie Kobrovsky and Mort Levy. Ross Born served as president of the Jewish Federation of the Lehigh Valley's Board of Directors from 2000 to 2003, and he also twice served as president of the Jewish Community Center.

“Ross and his family have helped redefine the highest levels of philanthropy, both in the Jewish community and the Lehigh Valley community at large,” said Mark L. Goldstein, executive director of the Jewish Federation, in a prepared statement. “We are honored to have him as our honorary president.”

Stanley Wax, a private investor and retired business owner, was elected honorary vice president. Wax served as federation president from 1996 to 1998. He has been active with the foundation's endowment fund, the Lehigh Valley Jewish Foundation, for many years. He currently serves as chairman of the federation’s Investment Committee. 

“Stan is an outspoken advocate for our local Jewish agencies and the work that we do to provide support in Israeland around the world,” Goldstein said. “He is an invaluable resource for the Federation, and we are glad that he has agreed to stay on as an honorary officer.”

Other elected officers are as follows:

* Vice presidents -- Carol Bub Fromer, Karen Cooper, Barry Halper, Nan Ronis, Mark Scoblionko and Amy Silverman. 

* Secretary -- Nicole Rosenthal

* Treasurer -- Sandra Goldfarb  

* Honorary vice presidents -- Lenny Abrams, Bob Born, Nate Braunstein, Murray Goodman and Marty Zippel.
