Bread Box Bakery and Café To Open At Tilghman Square

The owner is hoping to open by the end of the month.

One-of-a-kind breads, pannini sandwiches, salads and coffees will be the fare when the Bread Box Bakery and Café opens soon on the eastern end of the Tilghman Square shopping center, owner Jason Guo said last week.

Guo hopes to open the end of April but acknowledged it could take longer.  He said he has been working with township officials and contractors with the intent of opening this past February.

Guo will own the business with his brother.

“It is privately owned,” not part of a chain, he said, and the café will start out serving breakfast and lunch.

Specialty breads will include “banana-filled," mocha and cheddar cheese, setting the place apart from other area bakeries and cafes.  Guo has never owned a restaurant but has worked at one in Seilingsgrove, he said.  He learned to make the uniquely filled and shaped breads in school in China.

The café, near the AMC Tilghman 8 theaters, also will specialize in coffees and teas.

Guo offered this reporter a sample of fresh-brewed “Dancing Goat” coffee, which was wonderfully full-bodied but not bitter.   The name, he said, was coined hundreds of years ago when goats ate beans from this particular coffee bush.

Guo is accepting applications for seven to nine employees, including barista, for two shifts.   Those interested are directed inside, where applications, a box and e-mail address can be found while crews complete renovations.
