Parkland Alumni Swimmers Among Winning Tri-Athletes

More than 1,100 athletes competed on Sunday in the seventh annual Steelman Triathlon at Lake Nockamixon State Park.

More than 1,100 triathletes competed on Sunday in the seventh Annual Steelman Triathlon at Lake Nockamixon State Park in Bucks County that benefitted the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Philadelphia and Susquehanna Valley. 

Founder and race director is Dale Winterhoff, of Orefield.

The triathalon offers two venues. A sprint event begins with a half-mile swim, followed by a 13.6 mile bike ride and a 3.1 mile run. An Olympic event starts with a 0.9 mile swim, followed by a 24.7-mile bike ride and a 6.2-mile run.

Awards were given to the top three in each age category and overall finishes. 

Among the participants were Parkland High School Alumni swimmers, Meghan Lewis, placing first in the sprint 20-24 age group category, and Ian Walsh, placing third in the sprint 25-29 category.

Also competing were mother-daughter and father-son teams.  Ryan Roberts of Emmaus competed alongside his dad, Tom Roberts.  

Participating and competing in their fourth Steelman were the Faust triplets, Brianna, Christina and Amanda of Macungie. Christina Faust placed second in the sprint 20-24 age group category. 

Competing also were Emmaus High School alumni swimmers, Greg Fischer, Kara Geiger and Kelsey Coates. Northwestern Lehigh alum, Lindsay Kerr and Central Catholic grad, Colin Fitzgerald also competed.
