South Whitehall Declares Snow Emergency

Residents are urged to clear vehicles from snow emergency routes.

South Whitehall Township has declared a snow emergency.

All residents are urged to clear vehicles from snow emergency routes and stay off roads, if possible, said Christopher Kelly, deputy Emergency Managemnt Coordinator in an email.

The township also has opened a shelter at Springhouse Middle School for residents without power.

As of 11:20 a.m. on Sunday, 13,127 customers in South Whitehall were without power, according to PPL Electric Utilities website.

Those using the shelter are reminded to take their medicines and to tell a family member they are headed there. Residents can take their cats and dogs, but cats must be in crates and dogs on a leash. Residents are asked to bring food for their pets.

South Whitehall crews are "working at full throttle" to get things back to normal, said Kelly. Road crews have been clearing roads, and the township volunteer fire companies have been clearing roads of snow and fallen trees.
