$4.5K Copper Wire Theft From PPL, Police Say

PPL is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone stealing copper wire from its company locations.

South Whitehall Township Police are investigating the recent theft of copper wire from a PPL training center in the township.

The wire, valued at about $4,500, was reported stolen Sept. 4 from the center in the 1600 block of Church Road, police said.

Copper thefts from PPL substations have been on the rise.  The electric utility company has had 50 thefts this year so far, compared with 36 total last year, according to Joe Nixon, a PPL spokesman.

The utilities company is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone stealing copper wire from its company locations.
