Killing of Half-Brother Leads to 3.5- to 10-Year Jail Term

Cory James Maletsky was sentenced to 3.5 years to 10 years in prison Monday for fatally stabbing his half-brother Christopher Lloyd in South Whitehall last September after a drunken brawl, according to reports on lehighvalleylive.com and The Morning Call.

Lehigh County Judge Maria Dantos handed down the sentence after emotional testimony from Maletsky's family.

Maletsky broke down when he told the court he was sorry for what he did—not because he was in jail, he said, but because "my brother is no longer with us," according to the reports.

Police have said the half-brothers and two other men were drinking alcohol and watching TV around a fire pit at 1521 N. Leh St. when a fight broke out between Lloyd and one of the men. When Maletsky tried to break it up, Lloyd grabbed him by the throat and started punching him. Maletsky pulled a knife from a sheath in his boot and stabbed Lloyd three times in the abdomen, according to the lehighvalleylive.com report.

Maletsky pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in February in a plea agreement that could have resulted in a 20-year jail term.
