South Whitehall Manager Jon Hammer got a thumbs-up from township commissioners Wednesday night when he suggested the possibility of the township hosting free concerts in its premier park.

"I'm all for it personally," said Commissioner Chair Tori Morgan.

And if the concerts are early enough in the evening, Morgan said, families can also enjoy picnicking.

Hammer said the township may be able to get sponsors for the concerts so that South Whitehall doesn't incur any costs.

He and township staff would look to bring in different genres of music.

On Hammer's wish list? Don Cunningham and his Cabinet, the rock band fronted by Lehigh County Executive Don Cunningham, given that the county is celebrating its bicentennial.

Hammer said he will huddle with his staff as they work out details, including a concert schedule and possible performers.

The township utilized Covered Bridge Park last summer when it hosted its first community-wide .
