Sgt. Thomas Gersbach Retires from Police Force

Sgt. Thomas Gersbach served South Whitehall for more than 32 years.

Sgt. Thomas A. Gersbach, 56, has retired from the South Whitehall police department.

Police Chief Thomas J. Toth announced the retirement Wednesday night at a South Whitehall Commissioners meeting. Gersbach retired May 30.

After graduating from Whitehall High School, Gersbach earned an associate degree in criminal justice from the Lehigh County Community College (now Lehigh Carbon). He received his certification from the Allentown Police Academy in 1978 and was hired by the South Whitehall Police Department on Feb. 29, 1980.

Gersbach served as a patrol officer until his promotion to corporal as a platoon supervisor in 1985. In 2001, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant as supervisor of the patrol division.

In 2009, Gersbach was assigned as the supervisor of the criminal investigation division. Upon his retirement, he had completed 32 years and three months of service.
